In the making for quite some time, HUM TUMHARE HAIN SANAM, produced by K.C. Bokadia and directed by K.S. Adiyaman, will be released in March/April 2002. "My company, B.M.B., is going through tough times and I shall eternally be grateful to Salman, Shah Rukh and Madhuri for standing by me in this hour of crisis. Had it not been for them, I would have collapsed completely," the producer revealed to an august gathering recently.

The film, a remake of Adiyaman's Tamil hit THOTTA CHINUNGI, boasts of an enviable star cast – Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan and Madhuri Dixit and has music by Nadeem-Shravan, Nikhil-Vinay, Daboo Malik, Bappi Lahiri, Bali Brahmbhatt and Sajid-Wajid.

The story-idea:

Devnarayan (Alok Nath) takes responsibility of Gopal (Shah Rukh Khan) and Nita (Suman Ranganathan), the children of his deceased friend. Devnarayan gets so involved in their upbringing that he starts neglecting his daughter, Laxmi (Aroona Irani), and her two kids, Radha (Madhuri Dixit) and Prashant (Atul Agnihotri).

Upset by her father's attitude, Laxmi walks out of the house and decides to raise her two kids with sheer hard work and dedication.

Unable to cope with Laxmi's indifference towards him, Devnarayan falls ill and is hospitalised. When Laxmi learns of his illness, she rushes to the hospital to meet her ailing father, but meets with a car accident on the way. Devnarayan takes the responsibility of bringing up Radha and Prashant as well.

Knowing that Gopal loves Radha since childhood, Devnarayan gets them married. Radha's childhood friend Suraj (Salman Khan) is very close to her and keeps calling her for all his problems, which bothers and upsets Gopal a great deal. Things reach such a stage that Gopal decides to divorce Radha and even throws her out of the house.

Does Radha find solace in Suraj's eyes or does she re-unite with Gopal? HUM TUMHARE HAIN SANAM co-stars Aishwarya Rai as Suman, who plays a blind girl.

The music of the film, released at a gala function on January 21, is being marketed by T-Series. Bharat Shah and T.P. Aggarwal are the presenters of HUM TUMHARE HAIN SANAM.

Lajja

The film has three heroes, Sanjay Dutt, Sunny Deol and Jackie Shroff. The film is about a young girl’s journey of life.

There is no romantic pairing in the film. Santoshi explains,
It’s not about heroes and heroines. It’s about distinct characters!

Raj Kumar Santoshi is known as man of action. His much talked about mega-starrer ‘Lajja’ is on the brink of completion and he is seething with new ideas.

Santoshi has signed none other than A.R.Rahman to score the music and Santosh Sivan to wield the camera. Nitish Roy will take care of art production.

Director Santoshi’s has been a checkered career. If hits like ‘Ghayal’ and ‘Damini’ catapulted him to the skies, duds like ‘Barsaat’ and ‘China Gate’ brought him back to ground. Success of Anil Kapoor-Madhuri Dixit starrer ‘Pukar’ has certainly given him some respite.

His next film ‘Lajja’ has already created much pre-release hype because of its star cast. The film has Anil Kapoor, Madhuri Dixit, Jackie Shroff, Sunny Deol, Manisha Koirala, Sonali Bendre, and Mahima Chaudhary.

Yeh Raste Hain Pyar Ke

Each time Madhuri's career is declared kaput, she surfaces with a bang. She did it with Hum Aapke Yeh Raste Hain Pyar Ke Hain Kaun, then Dil To Pagal Hai and Pukar, and now while the world at large is yet again speculating about her future prospects as an actress after marriage, Mrs. Madhuri Nene is going to take the world by storm this year with a never-before-attempted role in Yeh Raste Hain Pyar Ke.

She plays Ajay's (a normal businessman) mentally unbalanced, intense and unpredictable wife. One thing leads to another, Ajay comes across Preity Zinta - a car thief - and falls in love with Yeh Raste Hain Pyar Ke her. Preity balances Madhuri's dramatics with a frothy, light-natured character. The winning edge of the film? Besides Madhuri, it's the fresh casting (for Ajay, Madhuri and Preity, this is the first), music (by Sanjeev-Darshan), emotions, drama and director Deepak Shivdasani's ability to bring the optimum out of all of the above.

Forthcoming New Movies

Completed movies till date (2/7/00)

  1. Rishta (with Aamir Khan and Amitabh)
  2. Zameen (Sanjay Kapoor)
  3. Shikhar (Shah Rukh Khan)
  4. Engineer, Opp Arving Swamy. A trilingual movie

Movies in the docks

  1. Madhuri Dixit will play the female lead and Nana Patekar returns to stage with late Jayant Dalvi's Purush directed by Vijaya Mehta. [August 30 '99]
  2. It's a casting coup of the year. Ajay Jadeja has been pencilled in for a movie opposite Madhuri Dixit, to be directed by Vikas Desai. Practically every hero in show town would have given his right arm (and left) for the role that has been earmarked for the cool cricketer. But Madhuri and her producer were determined that it had to be Ajay and no one else because he fits the part to a T. "Ajay is the best choice," Mads trilled, looking quite bowled out. "I can't wait the camera to start rolling." So eat your hearts out, all you heroes out there. The chemistry between the heroine with a million-buck smile and the ace sports star should be more than worth the wait.
  3. Ram, A Kannada movie, Opp 'Gentleman' Arjun. A bilingual movie
  4. Madhuri to co-star with Tom Cruise! (Rumor?)
The Queen bee of Hindi films has done it! She goes Hollywood. Madhuri Dixit has been signed to play the female lead in a film called The Dicing which will have Tom Cruise and Ben Kingsley playing the male leads. The film based on the Mahabharata is being produced by Suresh Jindal and directed by Mani Kaul. While the details of the project have been kept under wraps, `g' stumbled on them in Seychelles. The film is to begin in August-September and will be shot extensively on the virgin locations in Seychelles.

Madhuri's Film History

Madhuri Dixit began her career with what was a financial disaster in 1984's Abodh with some not-so-famous people and, as a result, ended up trying out for a failed TV series. She then acted in a bunch of Low Budget movies until she signed in for Tezaab with N. Chandra which was a typical masala Hindi muti-starrer movie. The movie had her play the role of Mohini, a college girl who falls in love. It is a violent love movie with some great songs. Her acting career sky rocketed after this movie.

She managed to keep her charm alive after Tezaab. The movie which disappointed the audience was Dayavan, a remake of a classic KamalHassan Tamil movie Naayakan, directed by Mani Ratnam. The movie had an (in)famous kissing scene with Vinod Khan. She swore never to act in a kissing scene again(Bharatiya Naari concept?).

Madhuri came with another blockbuster the following year with Dil, opposite Aamir Khan. This movie was a blessing in disguise and put her back in the race. By this time she was a strong contender for the #1 actress in India, who was Sridevi at that time. Madhuri was getting famous for that enchanting smile and her dances which had a professional touch. She enrolled for some classical Kathak dancing classes to boost her career.

The next turning point in her career was Beta, opposite Anil Kapoor. It was a remake of a Bhagyaraj movie in Tamil, and it was at that time Anil Kapoor was making it big with remade Tamil movies in Hindi, like Eeshwar, Beta etc. Now, Madhuri became well known for the mouth-watering moments for the male members of the audience with her jhatak-matak numbers. The dhak-dhak number in that movie shook the mountains of Cashmere and made waves in the oceans of Cape Comorin.

Her biggest blockbuster was Hum Aapke Hain Kaun made by Rajshri productions. It broke all the records set by the Bollywood industry and was the biggest grosser the industry had ever known. Madhuri made a new fashion trend in India with the famous backless blouse to go with her blue saree. The saga continues with her other hits like Raja and the more recent megahit musical Dil to Pagal Hai.

Madhuri's Y2K Horoscope!

She must exercise extreme caution for the major part of '99. I would suggest that she be cautious of her dealings with her private employees, or else she may find herself in a very distressing situation between 2003 and 2005. If she is not cautious during the first six months of 1999, she may repent till 2003.

Sadly, she is not aware that she does not have any freedom. She should be more diplomatic and extremely independent. She is probably a victim of habit, which she has to reform. Once she does that, I think the latter half of '99 right up to mid-2000, will be comfortable for her.

I want this message to reach Madhuri Q that she might lose everything she has gained, whether it is wealth or otherwise, between the period of 2003-2005, as she will be deceived by someone close to her.

Professionally, Madhuri growth will be tremendous, the latter half of '99, may see the Madhuri magic once again. The latter half of 2000 and early 2001, may not be so good but the latter half of 2001 and early 2002, will be excellent. Thereafter I see a negative spell for about three years. Implicit faith in anybody, from now to 2005, is not suggested...

Tete-e-tete :

Among Madhuri Dixit's earlier films is a film called Manav Hatya in which she played heroine to Shekhar Suman. Dixit has also played a romantic sidekick in a film with Raja Bundela, who's now a small time television actor.
